Our History

In 2006 - 2007 we spoke with a wide range of social activists who we met through conferences and our network. In-depth interviews were conducted with twenty-one prominent activists in the US and Canada, testing the hypothesis that leading effective social change requires a deep understanding of, and congruence between, one's inner experience and one's actions for change in the external world. We were met with overwhelming interest and encouragement. Broadening our inquiry, we engaged in another fourteen interviews with funders and conveners of social change. Our analysis determined there is a strong need for a programme that provides a place to heal, a place to convene, intra- and inter-personal skills, leadership training and follow-up support. There are now over 1500 pages of transcripts containing valuable information informing the design of such a programme.

On a parallel course, in 2007 - 2009 we focused on ways of working with people interviewing over fifteen prominent facilitators/organizations that provide personal development programming. To broaden our collective experience we elected to participate in some of our interviewee's courses. We are now developing a collaborative process to create a programme combining many of these methods of working with people. All of our prospective collaborators are social activists or have worked effectively with activists.
